In the summer of 2018, a small group of primary care medical professionals desired to create a community for a Patient Centered Medical Home. Our "whole patient care" would encompass traditional primary care management all within the Medical Home. Our team based approach to medicine would be focused on our patients being active participants in guiding their health care. This was during a two year period when there was a recent flooding threat to the area, followed by a deadly wildfire in Paradise, California, and then reoccurring power shut-offs to reduce the risk of starting wildfires, in a backdrop of elevated racial tensions and a COVID-19 Pandemic. All of these tragedies highlighted the need for accessible comprehensive medical care to treat a very diverse community. Tarichi Primary Care was founded in Oroville, California in 2021 and the grand opening of Corning, California and Chico, California clinics was on July 1st 2022.
We see a future where all people, despite economic disparity, strive to reach their optimal health with equal access to quality health care. We hope to provide affordable, accessible and effective health care that enhances the quality of life and honors the dignity of every patient.
The patient is an active participant in their health care; we are here to guide and support their efforts to manage their health.
We will assist all patients equally without regard to their race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual preference, gender identity, or socio-economic status.
The intent of our efforts is to first maintain health and then the correction of illness.
We will actively participate and initiate the advancement of heath care in our community by applying evidence based medicine and through partnership with our health care community and engagement of the patients in their care.
Everyone plays an important part in the health of our patients and the community as a whole.
We will be timely, thorough, honest, comprehensive, and evidence based in everything we do.
We will provide affordable care, expanded hours, plentiful staff, and multiple venues of communication for the patient.
We will regularly seek feedback for improvement from our peers, patients, and the community and apply what we learn in a cycle of continuous improvement.
Taricha torosa is the species name of the orange bellied newt that is indigenous to central California in the region that our Tarichi Primary Care is founded. Newts, salamanders and frogs are amphibians, living on land and in water, and are used as indicator species. In nature the amphibians serve as an "early warning system" of the declining health of a biosystem when it becomes out of balance. Watching health indicators closely allows scientists to make adjustments to the system to get it back in balance. Likewise, we have chosen, "Evete" as our mascot, as a reminder to remain watchful and vigilant for the signs of our patient's health to enable us to help them maintain their optimal health and return them to balance quickly when needed. She may look very adorable and playful, but don't let that fool you. Taricha torosa secretes the potent neurotoxin tetrodotoxin, which is hundreds of times more toxic than cyanide. Because of this and conservation efforts, "Evete" and her species are in no apparent danger of extinction.
